Metigoshe Ministries Mission Statement
Metigoshe Ministries is adventure anchored in Christ where people experience
and celebrate the gifts of God in a life together.
Metigoshe Ministries, rooted in the Lutheran tradition, provides:
· Summer Bible camp for elementary youth through college freshmen
· Day camps in area congregations
· Summer Bible camp for campers with developmental and physical disabilities
· Retreats for youth, adults, and families
· Facilities for family reunions and plan-your-own retreats
Metigoshe Ministries began as summer Bible camp and today is both a summer Bible
camp and year-round retreat center ministering to thousands of youth, families,
and adults through summer camp, day camps, on-site retreats, and travel ministry.
Metigoshe Ministries has its historical roots deep in the camping activities of
Lutheran congregations in north central North Dakota. Area congregations found this
ministry to be invaluable, purchased a peninsula on Lake Metigoshe, and incorporated
as The Metigoshe Lutheran Bible Camp in 1943. The first director of summer-long Bible
camp was Rev. Mark Ronning.
In 1972, the camp built the Lakeside Christian Center which was used
by both the camp and Metigoshe Lutheran Church.
In early 1981, the camp was moved from Lake Metigoshe to the 268-acre
site on Pelican and Sandy Lakes, allowing broader program use for the
summer ministry.
In 1983 Mark Ronning, director since 1966, died. The Rev. Paul Leslie
became the director and served from 1984 to 1988, followed by the Rev.
Marsh Luther Drege who served as director from 1989 to 2003.
In 1999, the new Center of Life addition was constructed between the
Christian Center and the Life & Growth building for expanded retreat
programming.
In 2001, the camp purchased 40 additional acres on Pelican Lake.
At the beginning of 2004, Kyle and Betsy Debertin began serving as
the co-executive directors.
